This article investigates the different variables affecting the development of little scope businesses in India. Data Technology (IT) is one of the critical elements, which is, all in all, not utilized by the little scope enterprises in India for their creation and business process, in the development of little scope ventures in India. Further based on Nolan's ‘Stages of development model' the phases of utilization of data innovation in little scope businesses are considered. Little Scale Industry in India: An Analysis in the Context of Liberalization Little and Micro makers are essential in creating economies, and their job is considerably more prominent in the to a great extent rustic economies of South Asia. In India too, the area is the second biggest business, after agribusiness, and records for almost 6 percent of the nation's GDP. India was a special case in that it gave the little scope area enormous motivating forces, and insurance, in the period 1948-1991, setting off to the degree of holding certain creation lines exclusively for the division. In the recorded setting of this, this paper will endeavor to dissect the issues unconventional to a ‘smalls size of creation' in India in an undeniably globalized situation. It will likewise take a gander at a portion of different issues tormenting the area, for example, credit accessibility and keeping up quality gauges. Development of poisonous metals from little scope mechanical zones: a contextual investigation from Delhi, India In India, an expected 70% of the all out modern contamination load is credited to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Among SMEs, little scope ventures keep on utilizing old advancements with no severe standards for contamination control. Thusly, squander produced from them is for the most part dumped without treatment. These realities are reinforced from the examination led on strong waste and wastewater tests from five modern territories, water tests of waterway Yamuna, the tributary of stream Ganges and strong waste examples of landfill regions in Delhi. Poisonous metal focuses were broke down and found in high fixation in gathered examples. Other than that, fractionation study was additionally done. The information got from this examination distinguish that the losses with high groupings of harmful metals, requiring the presentation of point source control of waste age.

Biochemical Action of Bacteria

To watch the development of various microorganisms species in term of structures and its morphology dependent on various synthetic substance applied. 3. To watch physiological and immunological properties used by various types of microorganisms. Presentation: Bacteria biochemical testing can decide the sorts and numbers as far as province shaping units of microbes present in an example of various synthetic. The testing could be centered around a particular sort of microorganisms, clinical microbes or an expansive scope of ecological microscopic organisms. Since microorganisms are available in for all intents and purposes any condition, it’s essential to be clear why the testing is being performed. The more explicit the testing is the better and the simpler it is to decipher the outcomes. Numbers and kinds of microorganisms that ought to be a reason for concern relies on a few variables, including the sort of microscopic organisms present and the sort of tests. Escherichia coliâ are one of the principle types of microorganisms living in the lower digestive organs of warm blooded creatures. E. coliâ can be found in the intestinal tract of warm-blooded creatures. The nearness of E. coliâ in nourishments is viewed as a sign of fecal sullying. Staphylococcusâ organisms are generally found in nature. A few animal groups of Staphylococcus are found on the skin, digestion tracts, nasal entries, and so forth of warm-blooded creatures. A few animal varieties of Staphylococcus, particularly Staphylococcus aureusâ can be pathogenic are equipped for causing disease. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is broadly conveyed in soil, water and plants. It makes due in hot tubs, whirlpools, contact focal point arrangement, sinks and showers. It can cause various sharp diseases including contaminations of the skin, outer ear trench and of the eye. Nitrifying microorganisms reuse natural nitrogenous materials from ammonium (the endpoint for the disintegration of proteins) to nitrates. Their quality can show that the water may have been contaminated by nitrogen-rich organics from sources, for example, bargained septic tanks, sewage frameworks, mechanical and unsafe waste locales and is experiencing a high-impact type of corruption. The nearness of denitrifying microscopic organisms can show that the water has been contaminated by nitrogen-rich organics from sources, for example, traded off septic tanks, sewage frameworks, mechanical and perilous waste locales. Different voices question instructive innovation as a panacea. The issues related with innovation in the school study hall as far as issues, for example, inadequately working gear, over-advancement of innovation based figuring out how to understudies, and absence of value in courses conveyed by innovation. Instructive innovation who state understudies picking on the web courses are not getting the training they pay for, and question whether colleges ought to give such instruction. The American Federation of Teachers and other personnel associations have likewise raised genuine alerts about electronic training and have even protested over it. Innovation in Quality Education because of developing analysis of the ongoing, quick, unregulated development of separation instruction, various perceived advanced education associations have planned quality gauges and rules. The standards have been supported by various advanced education overseeing and policymaking bodies on the planet, just as by the territorial authorizing community. The center supposition of these rules is that, â€Å"The foundation's projects holding particular accr editation meet similar necessities when offered electronically. † Since these rules are a generally acknowledged meaning of â€Å"quality† as applied to online training, they are cited underneath: * Each program of study brings about learning results fitting to the thoroughness and broadness of the degree or declaration granted. * An electronically offered degree or declaration program is intelligible and complete. The program accommodates proper constant or deferred cooperation among personnel and understudies and among understudies. * Qualified staff gives fitting oversight of the program electronically advertised. * The program is reliable with the organization's job and mission. * Review and endorsement forms guarantee the propriety of the innovation being utilized to meet the program's goals. * The program gives staff bolster benefits explicitly identified with educating by means of an electronic framework. One basic strategy where strengthening is an objective of separation instruction at all is to downplay rules from a lofty position and to dep end on nearby self-rule. Ongoing position, quality confirmation in separation training, in any case, have noted with alarm the float toward norms forced from above. Remote learning† would basically prompt understudies remaining at home before PC consoles as opposed to being instructed in a school domain. â€Å"This is way distant from the desires for guardians who need their kids to create both socially with different understudies and instructively under the direction of qualified teachers†. Online Education and Community The â€Å"community of scholars† was vital to the customary idea of higher education. The push of online training backing is to expand the idea of network in non-conventional ways, especially through association with or in any event, contracting out to the business network. Instructive organizations in totally propelled nations experience solid motivators for private segment banding together since the significant expenses of interactive media ric h online educational plans are regularly past what a solitary neighborhood school can manage. In the conventional â€Å"community of scholars† the understudy was coached as a disciple and in the long run turned into a co-specialist in explore and inventive activity.Advocates of online training contend that this idea of scholastic network will be improved through the marvels of innovation. On the understudy side, the social separation intrinsic in online training appears to make understudies need clear, exact, goals arranged educational plans which may speak to a narrowing of instruction, and may make them far-fetched possibility for collegial work on staff look into ventures. The truth of online training is that it favors a progress from customary thoughts of scholastic network toward a much smaller, exchanges based model.Online Education and Learning Autonomy Online instruction faces the Catch 22 that it is best attempted by understudies with solid independent learning aptitudes, yet simultaneously the disconnectedness of understudies from instructors appears to be connected with unyielding understudy requests for plainly organized learning assignments and timetables. Understudies every now and again feel the requirement for continuous correspondence with their teacher. A usually communicated understudy need is that for unmistakably and unequivo cally verbalized course learning objectives. That is, online instructional method appears to be more connected with â€Å"cyber distance† than with â€Å"virtual community,† and understudies immediately become roused to look to defeat digital separation through expanded course structure, decreasing learning self-governance. Online instruction is a piece of a cost decrease exertion, requiring HR to be extended to cover more credit hours, staff abdication to the preparation attitude of result based assessment is everything except guaranteed aside from, obviously, in conditions which don't try to endeavor to implement quality affirmation gauges. Online Education and Critical ThinkingOnline training can deal with guidance to-realities all the more effectively; drill-and-practice is the strong point of PC techniques. Incidentally, conversely, customary training with its as far as anyone knows uncreative auditorium techniques has highly esteemed its capacity to teach basic re asoning abilities. Separation instruction directors know that basic considering on the web strategies. Thusly it isn't surprising to locate that quality confirmation gauges for online training make reference to understudy thinking aptitudes, free learning abilities, cooperation and relational abilities, and different parts of basic thinking. Moreover, savvy specialist and workgroup coordinated effort programming regularly are focused on legitimately at empowering basic reasoning abilities. Basic reasoning can be instilled utilizing innovation, for example, digital coaching and video theater. An affection detest relationship exists between online training and basic reasoning ability improvement. Composing assignments are thought to help create basic reasoning and keeping in mind that online techniques can improve community oriented composition, when all is said in done online courses are related with less composition, not more.Socratic conversation with workforce is additionally thoug ht to instill basic reasoning, yet while online strategies in principle could upgrade conversation, actually online courses are related with far less teacher arranged conversation. Basic reasoning is additionally thought to be related with critical thinking going past computational mechanics to thought of complex causal and worth frameworks, however while canny coaching programming exists, the open-endedness of making issue sol

Matthew Mcfadden As he yelled over the mild-mannered café everybody gazed at him, he at that point began doing a strange move and grabbed my unified eye as my odd associate. My kindred colleagues have educated me so much concerning this man being lethargic and irritating, so I imagined I had no intrigue. In any case, he grabbed my eye with regards to why he was how he was. We will compose a custom article test on Profile Essay on a Friend Named Matt or on the other hand any comparative subject just for you Request Now His name is Matt McFadden, and starting today we are dear companions. As a little youngster, his venerated image was Jim Carrey. For the individuals who don't know Jim Carrey, he is probably the most entertaining on-screen character who began his vocation as a comic. Matt, at age three, would watch his motion pictures and reenact his most interesting minutes. He would engage his family and their companions each Friday late evening acting simply like Jim Carrey. He has the normal capacity to make anybody chuckle at whenever. After twenty years Jim Carrey still affects him and instructed him that life doesn’t consistently must be not kidding; presently making individuals grin is the thing that Matt loves doing. At whatever point circumstances get intense, he is consistently the one to step in and light up the occasion. Relatively few individuals can do that, however Matt has that really one of a kind blessing. At the point when he was more youthful and fell into difficulty with his folks his silly ways consistently appeared to spare him. At the point when he is in a tough situation at work, he keeps on pulling off it in view of his senseless character. I can't see how he does it. It is his characteristic blessing to snicker out of circumstances. While Matt is continually making individuals chuckle there is one thing that fulfills him. It is something I could never have envisioned. Around four years prior he was visiting his sister in Las Vegas, and the day they were leaving the Bellagio inn was facilitating a show with the drinking fountain. The tune playing was called â€Å"Time to Say Goodbye† sung by show artist Andre Bacilli. It was the most wonderful sight he has found in as long as he can remember. The water would hit the dance floor with the melody beat by beat; each beat had a heartbeat of water with lovely lights shooting into the dusk skies. It carried tears to a multi year old man’s eyes. Till this day that melody presents to him the most visual memory that makes him grin wildly. The tune not just satisfies him, it gives him a delicate side that nobody could ever accept he has. He falls off very solid, boisterous, and to outsiders, irritating. So as to know the genuine Matt McFadden, time must be all around went through with him. Golf is another approach to make this youngster upbeat and loose. He adores this game as though it were his own life. He plays each week in any event one day, some of the time more. It quiets him down and challenges him all simultaneously. Golf is a game of unwinding and quiet. Indeed, even as a golf player he makes individuals chuckle as they get disappointed with this game. He is the most joyful individual I have ever had the delight of meeting. He impacts individuals into making infectious grins any place he goes. He can turn the angriest man glad by splitting one of his cheesy jokes. The golf players appreciate his conversation at the course, and will constantly greet him wholeheartedly because of the delight he brings. Matt will be seeking after a vocation decision that is going to accommodate his character extraordinarily well. He needs to be a paramedic, and I trust it is an awesome decision since he can make the debilitated individuals ignore and get the agony their brains. This previous week I had Matt over for some exploration. My dad is horribly wiped out and simply out of medical procedure. Five minutes went through with Matt, and he was moving on the floor giggling. I had never observed my dad so glad. The chapter will discuss aspects of research methodology applied in this study. It will also discuss on the data collection method and other statistics tool that will be used in evaluating the performance of the banks. This study will use descriptive financial analysis to describe, measure, compares, and classifies the financial solutions of Malaysian banks. To evaluating banks performance, this study uses a ratio measure that is not a new method in the literature. The use of ratio method has many advantages and the most important benefit is that it compensates bank disparities. Banking firms are not equivalent with respect to sizes. The ratio removes the disparities in sizes and brings them at par. In order to examine whether there is a difference in performance between Islamic banks and conventional banks of Malaysia, equality of mean test is performed. The equality of mean test used for comparing statistics from two or more samples of numeric data drawn from two or more populations is most widely used in the literature of performance and the typical text in statistics. The hypothesis is that the performance ratios are normally distributed. The null hypothesis of the equality of mean for the conventional banks and Islamic banks is tested against not equality of mean. Dependent variable The dependent variable for this research is performance Islamic banks comparable to conventional banks in Malaysia, coded 1 if a performance Islamic bank is at par with the conventional banks and 0 otherwise. Independent variable The independent variable for this research is comprising (1) profitability performance, (2) liquidity performance and (3) credit risk performance that will influence the overall performance Islamic banks comparable to conventional banks of Malaysia. 3.3 Data collection In this study, the performance of Islamic banks in Malaysia is compared with the conventional banks. The data for financial ratios are obtained from the respective banks annual report each year for 10 years from the period 2002 until 2011 of the both Islamic and conventional banks (include foreign banks). Therefore, the growth rate of the banks are measured based on 2011 as the base year consist of : Local full-fledge Islamic banks Bank under this category is classified as standalone Islamic commercial banks established with no relationship with conventional bank either as tha parent or subsidiary company, such as, Bank Islam and Bank Muamalat. Local Islamic subsidiary banks Islamic subsidiary banks are those banks that have been established after the migration of conventional banks with Islamic bank windows into a full licensed of Islamic bank status. Foreign banks (both conventional and Islamic) Foreign banks are those foreign players that have been granted a li cense by BNM to established financial institutions in Malaysia. The data employed is obtained from the annual reports of respective banks. All data for Islamic subsidiary banks are taken from the annual report of the parent bank is annual report is not available, that is prior to establishment of standalone Islamic banks. 3.4 Sample The sample banks for this study are forty three (43) banks (include foreign banks) comprising two (2) full-fledge Islamic banks, other fourteen (14) Islamic banks and twenty seven (27) conventional banks. The unavailability of audited financial statements of some banks limits us to use bank population for analysis. 3.5 Performance measures This study uses internal factors for those related to items of balance sheet and income statement of banks and well within the control of the bank management. After examining the income statement and balance sheet of Islamic banks and conventional commercial banks of Malaysia, this study utilizes seven financial ratios for evaluating the financial performance of Islamic versus conventional of bank of Malaysia. These financial measures of performance are placed under three categories as given below: Profitability Performance Liquidity Performance Credit (loan) Risk Performance Profitability performance There are some financial measures for evaluating profitability performance of a firm. This study uses the following three basic. They are: Return on Assets (ROA) = profit after tax/total assets ROA is a superior indicator of a banks financial performance and managerial effectiveness. It shows how proficient the management is in allocating asset into net profit. The higher the ROA, the higher the financial performance or profitability of the banks. Return on Equity (ROE) = profit after tax/equity It shows a rate return on base capital, i.e., equity capital. The higher the ROE, the more efficient is the performance. Cost to Income (CTI) = total cost/total income. Cost incurred per ringgit generation of income or in other words, income generated per ringgit cost. It is indeed considered to be one of the best indices for measuring economic efficiency or profit performance. The lower the CTI ratio, the better is the profitability performance of a bank. Liquidity performance Liquidity is the life of a commercial bank. Liquidity means cash availability: how quickly a bank can convert its assets into cash at face value to meet the cash demands of the depositors and borrowers. The higher the amount of liquid asset for a bank, the greater is the liquidity of the bank. Among the various liquidity measures, this study uses the following: Cash Deposit Ratio (CDR) = cash/deposit. Cash in a bank vault is the most liquid asset of bank, therefore, when withdrawal exceeds new deposit significantly over a short period, banks will get into liquidity problem. Bank with higher CDR is relatively more liquid than a bank which has lower CDR, thus enhance depositors trust. Loan Deposit Ratio (LDR) = loan/deposit. It indicates the percentage of the total deposit locked into non-liquid asset. The higher the LDR, the higher is the liquidity risk. Credit risk performance Three financial ratios are used for measuring loan/credit risk performance of a bank. These are: Equity to Asset ratio (EQTA) = common equity/assets. It measures equity capital as a percentage of total assets. EQTA provides percentage protection afforded by banks to its investment in asset. It measures the overall shock absorbing capacity of a bank for potential loan asset losses. The higher the ratio of EQTA, the greater is the capacity for a bank to sustain the assets losses. Equity to Net Loan ratio (EQL) = total equity/net loans. It measures equity capital as a percentage of total net loans. EQL provides equity as a cushion (protection) available to absorb loan losses. The higher the ratio of EQL, the higher is the capacity for a bank in absorbing loan losses. T-test analysis A  t-test  is any  statistical hypothesis test  in which the  test statistic  follows a  students  t  distribution  if the  null hypothesis  is supported. In order to examine whether there is a different in performance between Islamic banks and conventional banks of Malaysia, t-test is performed for all financial ratios. The assumption is that the performance ratios are normally distributed. The t-value is an indication the probability that both selected samples have the same mean and that differences in the sample means are due to fluctuation. As the t-value gets smaller (approaches zero) the probability that sample means ate the same gets larger. As the t-value gets larger (in either the positive or negative direction) the probability that sample means are the same gets smaller. Whereby: n = sample size s ² = variance = sample mean df = degree of freedom subscript1 = sample from Islamic banks subscript2 = sample from conventional ban ks Since t-value is used to determine whether there are significant differences between two groups, the comparison is made between conventional banks and each category of Islamic banks. Regression analysis In  statistics,  regression analysis  includes a lot of techniques for modeling and analyzing several variables, when the focus is on the relationship between a  dependent variable  and one or more  independent variables. Regression equation : ÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ · = a + bx Once you have the regression equation, using it is a snap. Choose a value for the independent variable (x), perform the computation, and you have an estimated value (ÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ·) for the dependent variable. Regression model : ÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ·Islamic = a + bx1 + bx2 + bx3 ÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ·Conventional = a + bx1 + bx2 + bx3 Whole model : ÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ·Malaysian banks = a + b1PROFITABILITY + b2LIQUIDITY + b3CREDIT RISK Whereby : ÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ · = performance of banks (each and both) (dv) a = a constant terms bx1 = profitability performance (iv1) bx2 = liquidity performance (iv2) bx3 = credit risk performance (iv3) Regression analysis is also used to understand which among the independent variables are related to the dependent variable, and to explore the forms of these relationships. In restricted circumstances, regression analysis can be used to infer  causal relationships  between the independent and dependent variables. All these method can be identified by using SPSS to see the result of every method one by one. Regression analysis includes a few techniques for modeling and analyzing several variables, when the focus is on the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables (Keller, 2008). 3.6 Chapter summary This chapter contains a description of the research methodology that will be used in this study. Furthermore, the research design and method, sampling, data collection method and the types of analysis to be used are also discussed. The results of the study as well as the conclusions to be drawn from the findings will be constructed in the next two chapters.

The Bible Look For Attributes Of God - 1173 Words

1. Virtue: In other words, INTEGRITY. Integrity means following your moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. It is your moral standard of living. We are to be imitators of Christ. When reading the Bible look for attributes of Jesus and apply them to your life. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children (Eph. 5:1). 2. Faithful: Being faithful means LOYALTY. Being faithful is doing what you have promised to do. It is a part of the fruit of the Spirit. Can God trust you with His business of leading others to Jesus Christ? If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do†¦show more content†¦6:10). 4. Hardworking: This means to work at things with zeal; with eagerness and enthusiasm. The opposite of lazy. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord (Rom. 12:11). Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters (Colossians 3:23). 5. Provider: Being a giver and not a taker. You provide for others rather than always taking for yourself. It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35) 6. Early Riser: This has to do more with not being lazy in your life. Get up and do something productive. Do not love sleep or you will grow poor (Proverbs 20:13). A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied (Proverbs 13:4). 7. Business Savvy: Our creative God has made us to be creative. He has made us to work. He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers (Exodus 35:35). 8. Strength: Not just in the physical sense but in the spiritual also. Having on the armor of God (Eph. 6) and standing strong as you battle the enemy. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Phil. 4:13). Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be

Example Law Essay - The declaration of theory of law - Free Essay Example

Introduction The declaratory theory of law is quite simply that judges do not make or create the law, the merely declare what the law is and what it has always been. The declaratory theory of law has often been used by members of the judiciary and constitutional lawyers as a shield against the accusations of others that judges do in fact create law. The issue with the creation law by the judiciary is that the judiciary is an unelected body and therefore not accountable to the general public for their actions and judicial reasoning. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Example Law Essay The declaration of theory of law" essay for you Create order The legislative body of the United Kingdom, Parliament, is elected and therefore, in theory, a reflection of the majority view on key issues such as euthanasia, gay marriage and terrorism measures. The reality is the English legal system has two main sources of law when it comes to the determination and deliverance of justice. There is the common law doctrine of precedent which has evolved with the judiciary and as a result, some would argue is highly uncertain. The second source of law takes the form of statute and as a result of the legislative wording that exists, is significantly more certain. Regardless of an individuals view on the matter, it has to be accepted, as stated by Lord Irvine of Laring, that, within a certain limit, the role of judges will require a degree of legitimate law-making. The limits of this law making ability is defined by the English constitution and entangled key principles, such as parliamentary supremacy. The judges do every day make law, thoug h it is almost heresy to say so. The reality is that the English Legal System has developed as such that the judiciary do demonstrate a degree of judicial creativity which results in the creation of law. There are two key cases, well known to all English lawyers which demonstrate the fact that the judiciary do make the law. The first is the famous tort case of Donoghue v Stevenson . In this instance, the claimant was asking the judiciary to develop a principle that was otherwise not in existence. The problem was that the claimant was asking the judges to not only change the law so that it supported her case but to also retrospectively apply that law to the event in question (i.e. the snail in the ginger beer incident). The result was that in 1932 the judges stated that the defendant had a duty of care towards the claimant that did not actually exist in 1928 when the incident occurred. There are two schools of thought as to how it can constitutionally be possible for the jud iciary to act in this manner. The first is the most obvious but equally the most constitutionally concerning theory that the judges simply created new law and then retrospectively applied it to the event in question. There are some obvious issues here in terms of the principles of law and also the English constitution . The second of school of thought is the least applicable in terms of academic sway but is the most compatible with the principle of the English judicial system. This is the application of the declaratory theory of law, whereby the judges in this case were simply stating the law as it always has been. The next important case for consideration in this aspect is the criminal law case of R v R . This case involved the conviction of a defendant for raping his wife. Prior to the determination of this case there was no such thing as rape within a marital relationship; it was implied through the virtue of being married that sex would always be consensual. However, this conviction drastically changed the law by removing this marital exemption. The declaratory theory of law would have you believe that this is what the law had always been and that there was no new law being made. However 300 years of precedent in the form of such an exemption existing would contradict such a position. As a result, it has to be accepted that the declaratory theory of law is not a valid theory anymore and that judges do create law for legitimate purposes. Separation of Powers As the law has developed, so have the academic theorists who argue that the judiciary can make law within certain narrow confines. This is not necessarily a negative concept, as many would have you believe, as the ability of the judiciary to make law without accountability is both an advantage and a disadvantage. The development of law in this manner means that the fact that judges do not have to worry about voting statistics is an advantage in ensuring that the correct and just path is followed . Rather than issues being dealt with in accordance with the mob mentality of the general public, they are determined without such pressures and in accordance with a pure moral conscious. The law can be changed quickly in this manner which makes the judiciary incredibly versatile. There is however a limitation on this power, which is embodied in the separation of powers which contains levels of checks and balances. It is important to appreciate two aspects of this problem. The first i s the United Kingdom is one of the few countries in the world that does not have a written or codified constitution . This means that there are an extensive number of areas which have had to develop through doctrine and principle over a long period of time as there has been no specific document to resolve the question at hand. The second is that the concept of the separation of powers is a political notion and not a legal principle . The political concept of separation of powers is possibly as old as democracy itself, as its origins can be traced back to the father of logic, Aristotle. However, a number of legal principles have influenced the manner in which the political world has functioned. The most influential is that of Diceys theory of parliamentary supremacy . This principle has influenced and dictated the extent of judicial creativity and activism and has acted as a check on the judiciary . This effectively makes the judicial branch the weakest branch of the three as the courts recognise that they can be overridden by Parliament. This was demonstrated in the case of Burmah Oil v Lord Advocate . In this case, the House of Lords held that the proprietor of the oil fields was entitled to compensation from the government for the lawful damage that had been caused. However, Parliament then enacted the War Damage Act 1965 which retrospectively exempted the Crown from paying such compensation. This effectively frustrated the decision of the House of Lords and resulted in the Court being overridden. Conclusion It has to be accepted that the judiciary to alter the law and allow for it to develop through their judicial reasoning. However this is not something to be feared, as the judiciary is still the weakest branch out of the three constitutional branches and it has not yet exceeded its judicial remit. The use of parliamentary principles such as Parliamentary Sovereignty means that the powers of the judiciary are limited without the concept of justice being infringed upon. Locating Macbeth at the Thresholds of Time, Space and...

In the preface to Folie et dà ©raison, Michel Foucault unmistakably locates madness at the limen of cultural identity: European man, since the beginning of the Middle Ages has had a relation to something he calls, indiscriminately, Madness, Dementia, Insanity. †¦ [It is] a realm, no doubt, where what is in question is the limits rather than the identity of a culture. (Foucault xi) By describing madness in this way, he demonstrates his understanding of madness as a cultural phenomenon, defined not by the analysis of a subject’s symptoms, but rather the shared assumption that a subject is not ‘right’, does not conform to the prevailing ideological norm. Written in the late twentieth century, his work is a treatise about the wider†¦show more content†¦During Shakespeare’s time, the insane â€Å"†¦were not merely victims of a brutal society; they were also violent, murderous and politically dangerous† (Salkeld 80), and thus if we take his plays to be true â€Å"expressions of everyday life,† (Harmon 403), it is not surprising that the mad monarchs of Macbeth is so expeditiously removed from the throne. For those of the Early Modern period, the idea of a monarch possessed by madness was anathema, â€Å"something against which to prepare†¦ and above all, to avoid,† (Harmon 403) for what is to made of the Monarch’s privilege to speak on behalf of God if they are, indeed, a Madman? It is clear that both Macbeth’s state of mind that results from his transgressions is not a healthy one, and his wife ultimately cannot reconcile her guilt at Duncan’s murder with continued life. Macbeth then, can easily be interpreted as a case study of the mind. The ‘stuff of madness’ provides excellent entertainment for Shakespeare’s audiences, both contemporaneously and in the modern world, but more can be revealed through an analysis of how this madness is presented. The Foucaldian perspective indicates that madness is a â€Å"material condition that, to be understood, must be read, made sense of, [and] inscribed into discourse,† (Neely 142)

Natural Consequences In William Blakes A Poison Tree

Have you ever felt the burn of a consequence? The bullet-like words that come out of your parent’s mouth, right as they sear and tear apart your free time. I bet you have, we all have. Although when you do something so despicable that your consequence is death, now that deserves an explanation. In the poem â€Å"A Poison Tree† two neighbors are feuding indirectly, this goes on and on until one neighbor acts upon his anger and grows a poisoned apple tree. In the short story â€Å"Cask of Amontillado† Montresor (the protagonist) finds out that Fortunato has beaten Montresor thousand times, and when he is finished beating, Montresor can tell that Fortunato is his sworn enemy. Montresor lures Fortunato down into a dungeon-like place and entraps him in†¦show more content†¦Fortunato is characterized as an easily persuaded person who is competitive in wine tasting. Montresor lures him to his fate as his consequence and for someone who beat and tortured someone he is really drunk and really clueless. In the story â€Å"Cask of Amontillado† the author Edgar Allen Poe uses the events before Fortunato’s death to characterize Montresor as a shifty character, and Fortunato as a terrible drunk. These events lead into consequence and show how Fortunato’s death came to be. In the poem â€Å"A Poison Tree† by William Blake, two neighbors feud and the action of one of them changes everything, while the other broods in his own anger, these two characters develop and Blake uses this to his advantage to show natural consequence. One of the neighbors decides to become a thief, and steal from the other’s apple tree, he might not know it, but this is probably the worst decision of his life, â€Å"And into my garden stole† (13, Blake) The demonstration of this mischievous act demonstrates characterization. Right off the word â€Å"stole† you can figure out that the thief neighbor is a rotten person who goes behind people’s backs, and off the words â€Å"my garden† you can see that the other neighbor is a fellow who likes his garden to himself. These two characters show the different roles in the first part of natural consequence, aShow MoreRelatedThe Notion of Duality of the Human Soul in William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience4371 Words   |  18 PagesOf The Human Soul In   William Blake’s Songs Of Innocence And Experience Tembong Denis Fonge             Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience generally subscribe to the main stream appreciation that they present the reader with two states of the human condition - the pastoral, pure and natural world of lambs and blossoms on the one hand, and the world of experience characterized by exploitation, cruelty, conflict and hypocritical humility on the other hand. Does the nuclear family benefit the bourgoisie Free Essays

The nuclear family can be taken to be two parents and their children. Is the nuclear family primarily to benefit the powerful rather than society as a whole can be perceived to be true. This point of view is associated with Marxism and the powerful are the ruling class or bourgeoisie. We will write a custom essay sample on Does the nuclear family benefit the bourgoisie? or any similar topic only for you Order Now They own the means of production such as land, factories, machines and so on. Marxism is based on an exploitative and unequal relationship between two classes. The proletariats who are the workers are the majority and this is were the family comes in. The family is controlled by those who control the economy and they control the family and manipulate the family into benefiting them. In any society the economic aspect (that is, the productive process involving the creation of goods and services for distribution and exchange) is always the most basic, fundamental and ultimately most significant aspect because it is only through economic activity that people can produce the things they need for their physical survival. Marxists tend to see institutions like the family in terms of what they do to support the overall structure of capitalist society, their function within the limit of a particular form of economic production. Unlike Functionalist sociology, Conflict sociology tends to view these functions from more than one angle (for example, the family as an institution may serve useful purposes for upper class men, but not for working class women). Eli Zaretsky (â€Å"Capitalism, the Family and Personal Life†, 1976) a Marxists believes that the family is a prop to the capitalist society. The capitalist system is based upon the domestic labour of housewives who reproduce future generations of workers. He also believes that family has become a vital unit of consumption. The family consumes the products of capitalism and this allows the bourgeoisie to continue producing surplus value. In this respect, people are not simply being socialised into â€Å"society†, the socialisation process is directed towards the integration of people into a specific form of social relationship, one that reflects the fundamental, structural, inequalities of Capitalism. The ruling class ideology makes the family as an institution help to maintain and reproduce basic social inequalities by presenting them as â€Å"normal† and â€Å"natural† within the socialisation process. This creates a false class consciousness as they are not aware of their true identity as exploited workers. The family is a safety valve for people’s frustrations whereas the vast majority of males are relatively powerless in Capitalist industry, the family structure serves the purpose of disguising this powerless condition. Males within the family have traditionally been powerful figures in relation the females. Marxists contend that this â€Å"illusion of power† within the family serves as a safety value for the build-up of tension and frustration at work. The feminist perspective on the family has tended to stress the following ideas. Men oppress women within the family, just as they oppress women within all other institutions in Capitalist society. Feminist have tended to dismiss ides of gender differences based upon supposed biological / genetic differences between males and females that serve to legitimate male domination over women. Women have a role forced upon them within the family. Women act as â€Å"unpaid servants† within the home. This idea is linked, by Marxist feminists, to the economic relationship between Capital and labour, in the sense that labour is exploited by Capital in the economic aspect just as women are exploited by men within the family. They see family benefiting the powerful who are the men, this is patriarchy. Functionalist sociology has tended to look towards the family as the cornerstone of social integration in any society by which is meant the idea that ways have to be found to make people feel that they belong to the society into which they were born – to feel and believe that they have something in common with the people around them. The family group represents the primary institution, in any society, for the initial socialisation of children. In this respect, any institution charged with this responsibility is going to play a significant part in the reproduction of cultural norms and values, therefore family benefits society as a whole. The family as a unit of stability, of equal importance to this socialisation function, the family also represents an institution that acts as a stabilising force in society. In this respect, the family is seen to be an institution that is charged with ensuring the maintenance of social order. The basic relationship of the family institution to the whole social structure in society that is proposed by Functionalists is the family is a vital social institution responsible with the basic functions of socialisation and system maintenance. Fletcher a functionalist thinker, identifies the main functions of the family as being: Procreation and Child-Rearing: The family structure provides a legitimate arena for the bearing and raising of children. Given the relative helplessness of children at birth, parental nurture and care is seen as vital – and the family provides a solid basis for such care and support in the early years of a child’s social development. Regulation of Sexual Behaviour: In this respect, the family structure serves to limit and contain sexual jealousies and by defining the limits of sexual freedom, the family structure limits the chances of potentially damaging sexual relationships developing. Additionally, the family is a primary institution for the provision of love, care and emotional support for both children and adults. In short, it provides a sense of belonging and serves to clearly-define role relationships between men and women. Provision of a Home: This idea expresses the assumption that people find comfort and security within primary social and sexual relationships. The â€Å"home† not only provides physical shelter, it also serves as the focal point of family existence. I recognise that the family group serves some kind of purpose in any society. Where Marxists tend to disagree with thinkers working in other perspectives, however, is in relation to the nature of that purpose and, for Marxists, the relationship between the family and the social structure of any society is one of unequal dependence. Functionalists argue that social institutions develop out of the need to satisfy, fulfil and organise various human social needs. However I feel that the primary role of the family is not to benefit the powerful but in some societies it does to an extent conform to this idea. There are other functions of the family such as the socialisation of children also providing love and support for its members which does not always benefit the powerful. Oedipus the King Free Will vs Fate Essay Example For Students

Oedipus the King: Free Will vs Fate Essay The events in Oedipus the King, written by Sophocles, show an underlying relationship of mans free will existing within the cosmic order or fate which the Greeks believed guided the universe in a harmonious purpose. Man was free to choose and was ultimately held responsible for his own actions. Both the concept of fate and free will played an itregal part in Oedipus destruction. Although he was a victim of fate, he was not controlled by it. Oedipus was destined from birth to someday marry his mother and to murder his father. This prophecy, as warned by the oracle of Apollo at Delphi was unconditional and inevitably would come to pass, no matter what he may have done to avoid it. His past actions were determined by fate, but what he did in Thebes, he did so of his own will. From the beginning of this tragedy, Oedipus took many actions leading to his own downfall. Oedipus could have waited for the plague to end, but out of compassion for his suffering people, he had Creon go to Delphi. When he learned of Apollos word, he could have calmly investigated the murder of the former King Laius, but in his hastiness, he passionately curses the murderer, and in so, unknowingly curses himself. Upon the murderer I invoke this curse- whether he is one man and all unknown, or one of many- may he wear out his life in misery or doom! If with my knowledge he lives at my hearth, I pray that I myself may feel my curse. (pg. 438; lines 266-271)In order for Sophecles Greek audience to relate to the tragic figure, he had to have some type of flaws or an error of ways. This brought the character down to a human level, invoking in them the fear that it could happen to them. And Oedipus certainly is not one without flaws. His pride, ingnorance, insolence and disbelief in the go ds, and unrelenting quest for the truth ultimately contributed to his destuction. When Oedipus was told (after threatening Teiresias), that he was responsible for the murder of Laius, he became enraged and calls the old oracle a liar. He ran away from his home, Corinth, in hopes of outsmarting the gods divine will. Like his father, Oedipus also sought ways to escape the horrible destiny told by the oracle of Apollo. The chorus warns us of mans need to have reverence for the gods, and the dangers of too much pride. If a man walks with haughtiness of hand or word and gives no heed to Justice and the shrines of Gods despises- may an evil doom smite him for his ill-starred pride of heart!- if he reaps gains without justice and will not hold from impiety and his fingers itch for untouchable things. When such things are done, what man shall contrive to shield his soul from the shafts of the God? (pg. 452; 975-984)Oedipus unyielding desire to uncover the truth about Laius murder and the my stery surrounding his own birth, led him to the tragic realization of his horrific deeds. Teiresias, Jocasta and the herdsman tried to stop him from pursuing the truth. Take for example a part of the last conversation between Jocasta and Oedipus. After realizing that the prophecy had came true, Jacasta begs him to just let the mystery go unsolved for once. I beg you- do not hunt this out- I beg you, if you have any care for your own life. Seaside convalescent care center free essay sample

Atchison (2003) wrote about this process in his book Followership. He describes followership as complementary to leadership and recommends that it be recognized as a necessary component for an effective leader. A self-absorbed administrator will not make a good leader. A true leader will recognize the importance of getting respect, not simply compliance, from the people who follow. It is one thing to have people do what you say, but to have someone want to do it is another thing. The leader who understands this is on the way to greatness and will create a much more meaningful work environment. After said that, Mindy Alternot landed her first job as the administrator position at Seaside Convalescent Care Center, not knowing the massive amount of problem that facility has stored for her. As the new administrator Mindy was encourage to make major changes to help to turn around the poor reputation the facility had over the years. However, the facilities last survey was horrible, the inspectors found a number of deficiencies around the center that could cause potential for more than minimal harm. Not only this hurt the facility reputation but also the center was fined $3,000 a day for non-compliance and hefty fine. One of the major challenges Mindy had to deal with was nursing aides, because they were not motivated to work their best of their abilities. Because â€Å"meeting the needs and achieving the goals of both the employer and the employee is often difficult for managers in all types of organizations. † (Buchbinder Shanks, 2012) Additional, the nurse’s aides would leave during the summer to find well paid job, giving the center turnover rate of well over 100%. Mindy did attempt to connect with the nurses and try to inspire them, but she became frustrated and gave up on the task. She hand over the position to a veteran nurse with much more experience, releasing herself from the responsible, which gave herself more time to deal with the logistics part of the center. Before handing over the position to another nurse, Mindy tried to improve their training and by making their job more meaningful. She tried to get the nurses and the nurse aides active in  patient care, by encourage to have an opinion the matter, and also wanted to work with the licensed nurses to make the aids part of theteam, something that the nurses did not take too kindly of. Furthermore, she made an effort to build good relationships with the nurse. Mindy wanted to lead by being visible, available, engaged, and in tune with what was going on in the interactive caregiving environment. After two months of â€Å"beating her brains out† struggling to build a relationship with her stuff, Mindy finally decided give the Director of Nursing Services to Ann. Mindy had enough of the lack of commitment and frustrated by the aides. Because of the stress and exhausted and feeling defeated Mindy started to ignore and avoid the nursing stuff. In her third month she delegated the task of oversight the nursing staff to Ann. Ann had a background of manager experience, which helped her to get the nursing staff to where they needed to be. Ann’s goal was to build a strong nursing staff. When nurses were not fulfilling their duties, Ann motive was to punish the staff, and use and abuse the employees while she had them. This type of approached lead to a lot of overtime and double shift. Research has shown that one of the main reason found for nurses and aids leaving their jobs in nursing homes was the issue of understaffing. Due to the nursing shortage at the facility nurse were over worked, which led them to quite when the lucrative tourist season came along. Employees who are motivated feel invested in the organization, are happier, work harder, and more productive and typically say longer with an organization. Another major issue Seaside Convalescent Care Center staff having was lacking on communication. Already into her third month working at the facility, Mindy lack of communication already has put disinterested between the staff, only to perpetuate the problem over time. One of the distinguishing characteristics of healthcare organization is that the professional staff needs to work closely and collaboratively to meet patient needs. (Buchbinder Shanks, 2012) From the looks of Mindy team is falling apart because she doesn’t know how to work as a team, or keep a team together. In the healthcare industry a lack of motivation/ communication can lead to injury and even death, something that the care center cannot have at this point Discipline action is needed for nurses or nurse’s aides who do not work to the best of their ability. Employee should know that, until they find another position, they attitude, motivation and communication should not change. The only people will be harmed is the patient. Nurses and nurse’s aide should remember that patient safety and comfort comes first. I don’t believe Ann should set up strict guidelines, because we need the nurses to be motivation. Until they are motivation, being strict will make them lose interested. If nurse are not following the guidelines, discipline action should be taken place. When an employee decides to quit, Mindy should give a survey, by answering why question? Some ways the facility can improve is finding the cause of why employees quit their jobs. In the study, Ann had the idea of double shifting employees causing overtime. This does not fit in with the employees needs. Employee’s cannot be working overtime on a regular basis, is one of the biggest reasons for employees quit their job. Anns mentality of use them while you got them does not come off as valuing employees. One way to solve this problem is hire more nurse, which will cover more shift, and will decrease the overtime. It might not be in the budget, but employees cannot be over worked. Another alternative is letting the nurses know that the nurses aides need to be a part of the healthcare delivery system taking place at the Seaside Convalescent Care Center. Mindy responsibility is to make it clear to these nurses that they are still a highly valued employee who are part of the healthcare team. Mindy number one priorities is getting the entire staff to work on the same page and begin to run a successful care center. Efficient team function can only occur when each carefully selected team member knows the goal(s) of the team. It take less usually for one person to decide on a potential strategy than a group of people. However without having a team advocates in each of area affected by the decision, implementing a unilateral decision can become a healthcare manager’s worse nightmare. (Buchbinder Shanks, 2012) Recommendations. First and foremost, Mindy needs to change her hiring process. By providing a job description when posting position. When provided with clear description of the position, the right type of applicants will apply for the position. This will lead on find employees with good organizational fit, someone who is positive, which will create a successful environment. The second thing, Mindy needs to do performance evaluation every quart. A key outcome of the performance evaluation is the setting of performance improvement goals, actions to achieve the improvements, and priorities for action. {(Kirkpatrick, 2006). (Buchbinder Shanks, 2012)} . Next thing, Mindy needs to hire more employees so that her nurses do not get over worked and quit. This may require hiring some average nurses or new graduate, but I believe that this will keep the decent nurses from leaving because they are being over working. Keeping the experience nurses around can help Mindy build a solid foundation on which to build her organization. Finally, discipline action should be taken place at the care center if needed. Employee should know the rules, and if they believe that they could get away with anything, their action won’t change. They need to know discipline will take place if the manager or leader believe. Ann main position is leading the unmotivated staff working at a high level, if Ann is not there to discipline them they will continue to give tiniest effort, and the care centers reputation will continue to slip and they will continue to lose money. However, I do believe Ann and Mindy should stay at the position they are at right now. Because Ann will do what she does best is manage the nurse, and Mindy will do what she does best is run the operation of the facility. But also, Mindy cannot leave all the obligation to Ann, because Mindy was hired to be the administrator, and she needs to take the accountability of her employees. Even though if she from an overall management standpoint. If Mindy does keep the way the facility is, the employee will lose the respect in her, and even maybe the facility will close down.

Tour Of America Essays - Oscar Wilde, Operas, Anglo-Irish People

Tour of America In the early 1880's, when Aestheticism was the rage and despair of literary London, Wilde established himself in social and artistic circles by his wit and flamboyance. Soon the periodical Punch made him the satiric object of its antagonism to the Aesthetes for what was considered their unmaculine devotion to art and in their comic opera Patience. Wilde agreed to lecture in the United States and Canada. Wilde was given the paradoxical opportunity to characterize and popularize the intensely reflective and individualistic aesthetic movement. In 1881 Oscar Wilde saw himself in a position of man that required company and indulgence of leisure, and to sustain this he needed money in a time where money was scarcer than ever. He mortgaged his hunting lounge and sold a bit of his Dublin property to obtain some wealth. Oscar Wild had just finished two plays and was waiting to the rehearsals to start of Mr. Beere's Verato begin. During this time producer Richard Carte in New York approached Wild. Carte was running a not so successful play of New York at the time, but another part of his enterprise was to manage lecture tours. Carte wanted to give Americans a chance to see and hear the leading advocate of aestheticisms. It did not take Wilde long to consider. The next day on October 1 he cabled back "Yes, if offer good." Carte would cover Wilde's expenses and would share equally with him the net profits. After communicating back and forth by letter Wilde's repertoire was narrowed quickly. American's did not want poems recited to them what Americans wanted were "The Beautiful." (Ellmann 150) Wilde accepted this proposal in December, but he asks that the tour should start at the begging of 1882. He wanted to in London for the opening of Vera. The play he was waiting to open never does. This gave him time to prepared carefully for his tour. What to wear came first. Wilde thought of a costume for his tailor to make. A heavy coat made sense in the American if not the English climate (Ellmann 154). As to lecturing Wilde knew he had no talent for oratory. His friend Hermann Vezin gave him elocution lessons, " I want a natural style, with a touch of affectation." "Well, said Vezi, "and haven't you got that, Oscar?"(Ellmann 155) Wilde had yet prepared a lecture and was planning to write his lecture on his departure on the Arizona, which was to embark on December 24, 1881. But by the time the ship docked on January 2 he did not have it ready (Ellmann 158) When the Arizona docked in New York, the reporters where they are to catch his first words. On his way through customs Wild pronounced, "I have nothing to declare, except my genius." (Cevasco 15) Wilde was asked many questions by the press. He was unprepared for his lecture as well as for answering the press's question so he didn't say much and what he did say often was taken out of context. When he was asked about his voyage he responded, "I am not exactly please with the Atlantic. It is not as majestic as I expected. The sea seems tame to me. The roaring ocean does not roar."(Ellman 158) Report launch had outstayed its time, but the reporters hung on to ask Wilde about his cultural mission. When asked what was this aestheticism he had crossed the sea to promulgate, he only laughed. But when asked on what is his politics? Mr. Wild responding, "Those matters are of no interest to me, I know only two terms?civilization and barbarism, and I am on the side of civilization"(Cevasco 15). Later on when he was asked to comment on civilization in American, he said, "I believe the most serious problem for the American people to consider is the cultivation of better manners. It is the most noticeable, the most painful defect in American civilization"(Cevasco 16). On January 5th, soon after Wilde arrived in New York, he attended a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience, an operetta that satirized the aesthetic movement. The main character in the play is a ridiculous young aesthete probably modeled on Wilde, and apparently the first entrance

Complete List of FREE ACT Math Practice Questions

Complete List of FREE ACT Math Practice Questions SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Whether you're on a budget or just want to see what kinds of ACT Math study materials you can access for free, you've come to the right place. Though the internet is chock-full of ACT resources of dubious quality, we've collected and put together only the highest quality free ACT Math study materialavailable. So let's jump right in! Note: For guides and reviews of the best for-pay ACT study, check out our list of ACT study links, which includes all official practice tests, and our top picks for ACT prep books. Why You Must Use High-Quality ACT Math Materials Because the ACT is a very specific type of standardized test, it's crucial that you study using the right sources. Studying with the wrong materials is about as bad as not studying at all,and there are, unfortunately, a lot of poorly designed ACT prep materials floating around. So don’t be tempted by the many websites and programs, both free and paid, that provide ACT prep materials of poor quality. If you spend your time studying from inferior materials, you will not have a clear sense of how you’ll perform on the ACT.Proper test prep is about assessing your current level and improving upon it, but you won’t be able to do this if you get a false sense of your skill level (either higher or lower) based on low-quality study materials. In short, any practice problems that don't properly reflect the types of questions you’ll see on the ACT aren't worth your time! Knowing this, the absolute best study strategy is to use official ACT materials. The test is designed by ACT, Inc., and their free materials are far and away the best place to start. From here, you can then branch off to programs and resources that utilize (or closely resemble) this official material. Because you should only be studying from websites and programs that are as close to the source (i.e., the official ACT) as possible, there sadly aren't a whole lot of free materials available. That said, we've found a couple of solid free ACT Math resources you can use in your prep. Read on to see what these are! The 4 Best Resources for Free ACT Math Practice Here are four super helpful websites you can use to help you make the most of your ACT Math studies- and you don't have to pay a cent for any of them! #1: ACT, Inc. The creator of the test itself, ACT, Inc., should always be your first go-to website for any and all ACT matters. Luckily, they also have a good deal of free study resources, offeringboth complete ACT practice tests and individual Math practice materials. Free Official Full-Length ACT Practice Tests The five tests linked below are the only free tests available from the past 10+ years. Each ACT test includes an optional Writing section and answer key: ACT Practice Test 2015-16 ACT Practice Test 2014-15 ACT Practice Test 20-12 ACT Practice Test 2008-09 ACT Practice Test 2005-06 You might notice that there are missing years here (2006-07, 2007-08, etc.). This is because the ACT repeats tests for different years, meaningthatthe tests for missing years are actually duplicates of the ones above. Note: If you buy the third edition of theACT Red Book, you'll have access to five more official ACT practice tests, but this is obviously not free (around $30 on Amazon). You can also buy the more recent 2017-18 edition of the ACT Red Book, but this oneonlyincludes three practice tests whose questions often overlap with those in the practice tests above. Free Official ACT Math Practice In addition to complete practice tests, the official ACT website providessample math questions with answer choice feedback. These are a full 60 questions in ascending order of difficulty, just like a real ACT Math section. It's essentially another free complete ACT Math test with which you can study! We recommend solving all your questions on paper and then checking your work at the end, rather than checking your accuracy after each question. This method will give you a better sense of how you’ll do on the ACT (remember, you won’t get immediate feedback while you’re taking the actual test!). No need to worry about bills here- most of your ACT studying can be done for free. #2: PrepScholar ACT Blog At PrepScholar, we've compiled tons offree resources for all your ACT Math needs, including detailed guides on every ACT math topic. Our articles give definitions and explanations for major math concepts, offer examples of how you’ll see each topic on the test, and provide ACT practice questions with detailed answer explanations. Below are some of our most helpful content-related resources for the ACT Math section: Numbers Integers (Basic) Integers (Advanced) Fractions, Ratios, Rational Numbers, and Proportions Statistics (Mean, Median, Mode) Probability Sequences Algebra Single Variable Equations Systems of Equations Operations Functions Coordinate Geometry Lines and Slopes Reflections, Translations, and Rotations Plane and Solid Geometry Lines and Angles Circles Triangles Polygons Solid Geometry Trigonometry Trigonometry Formulas The 31 Critical ACT Math Formulas You MUST Know In addition, we have strategy guides to help you solve numerous ACT Math problems across the board: Plugging in Answers Plugging in Numbers You can also sign up for a free five-day trialforour online ACT prep program. This customizable program assesses your current strengths and weaknesses and adapts to your needs based on your progress. It also gives you practice questions tailored to your areas that need improvement and provides expert answer explanations for all questions. The questions we use in our program are all based on real ACT test questions, and, though the full program is not free, we guarantee you your money back if you don't improve your ACT score by 4 points. #3: Ivy Global ACT Practice Test This company offers afree unofficial ACT practice test. Although the math content overall is solid, some questions are slightly easier than those on the actual ACT. In addition, there are no answer explanations, making it hard to determine how to effectively solve questions you got wrong. Otherwise, this PDF offers helpful practice and is a great option if you've already used up all official resources. I recommend using itmainly to digintoextra math questions (instead of taking it as a full-length test). This will help you develop a clearer picture of what math concepts and question types are especially difficult for you. It should also be noted that unlike other ACT websites, Ivy Global does not require you to make an account in order to access its ACT practice material. #4: Khan Academy A partner of the College Board (the creators of the SAT- not ACT), Khan Academy is a great website to use forACT Math practice and review, as long as you know how to use it effectively. I say that because this free prep website only offers a program for the SAT, so you won't find any official ACT practice questions here. That said, you can still use Khan Academy to drill relevant ACT Math concepts and practice those you've learned. Since the ACT, like the SAT, has a big emphasis on algebra, you can use the SAT's Heart of Algebra and Passport to Advanced Math sections for relevant practice. For geometry (which makes up 35-45% of ACT Math), use the High School Geometry page to choose specific concepts and watch videos on them. Finally, for trigonometry, go with the trigonometry and SAT Additional Topics sections. OK, so you've got your study material. Now how do you best use it? How to Use ACT Math Resources Effectively: 6 Key Tips In addition to knowing what material to actually use (and what to avoid) for your ACT Math prep, it's important to know how to best utilize the resources you find. The following six tips will help you achieve your highest ACT Math score using the free prep materials available. #1: Take a Complete Practice Test in One Sitting Though you're probably mostly concerned about your ACT Math score, you still need to know how you'll fare over the course of the full ACT. Answering one or two ACT questions might not be overly challenging, but the test is a marathon: if you aren't prepared, you'll likely find yourself exhausted by the end of it. And exhaustion can cause anyone to make mistakes! So before you dedicate your focus to ACT Math alone, see how your Math score fits into the larger test-taking picture. Plus, a bonus: by taking a full ACT practice test, you'll also be able to see how your Math score does over the course of the entire Math section (remember, questions get harder and harder over the course of the Math test!). #2: Use Proper Timing As you take your complete practice test and any math-specific sections, be sure to follow the proper timing used on the real ACT. Here's a brief overview of how much time you'll get on each ACT section as well as how much (estimated) time you should spend per question: ACT Section Total Time # of Questions Time per Question English 45 minutes 75 36 seconds Math 60 minutes 60 60 seconds Reading 35 minutes 40 53 seconds Science 35 minutes 40 53 seconds Writing (Optional) 40 minutes 1 40 minutes As you can see, you'll have an average of one minute to answer each Math question, and you'll need to know how well you fit into these parameters before test day. It's not worth much if you can answer every question correctly but can't complete the test in time! Don’t worry if you run out of time while taking your first practice test- this is completely normal and gives you a place from which to begin and improve. If the trend continues, however, consider checking out our guide on how to stop running out of time on ACT Math. #3: Review Your Mistakes Taking a practice test is merely the first step. Once you're done with this, focus on identifying any patterns in your correct and incorrect answers so that you can see what and how you need to improve. For example, do you tend to get the last few questions wrong on Math? Dofunction questions always throw you for a loop? Whatever your case, dig deep to examine your errors, andtailor your study plan to drill your most challenging areas. #4: Target Your Areas of Weakness Your goal is to answer as many questions as accurately as possible, so dedicate the majority of your time to improving your areas of weakness. For example, if you're struggling to understand a certain concept, such as systems of equations or coordinate geometry, take time to review it and then use practice questions and tests to ensure you're getting it down. In addition, make an effort to prioritize the first 40 questions or so on ACT Math.Though each question is worth the same number of points, they get more and more difficult as you go through the test. Therefore, it's more efficient in terms of your time and energy to solve two questions in the 20-range than it is to spend twice as much time solving question 60. #5: Pace Your Studying Don’t cram all your studying into one day before the test. With a busy schedule, cramming might seem like your only option, but real improvement happens over time. And yet don't despair, either! No matter how much time you have left before the test, you can make a balanced study program. Start by looking at the time you have before test day. We generally recommend giving yourself at leastthree to six months to study for the ACT; this should be enough time for you to identify your weaknesses, take several practice tests, and review key content. Next, assign yourself at least three full practice tests in addition to your normal studying time, spaced out over the course of your time until the test. This probably won’t be possible if you only have a week or two before the ACT, but it’s still important to fit in at least one practice test or twowherever you can. If you're on an accelerated or last-minute schedule, check out our guides to studying for the ACT in a month andimproving your ACT score in 10 days. #6: No Improvement? Consider Using a Tutor or Prep Program Some students want to do all their studying alone, but for others this method is impractical. If the material doesn't make sense to you and you need extra guidance (or something to get you to make time to study), a tutor or prep program (or both!) can give you the final push you need to do well on the ACT and maximize your score. At PrepScholar, we offer both expert tutoring and a fully customizable online ACT prep program.
